Thermal Imaging FAQs
What is Thermal Imaging?
Thermal Imaging or “A Thermographic Survey” is a non-contact, non-invasive procedure used to detect potential issues within an electrical installation or with electrical equipment.
How does it work?
A Thermal Imaging camera will be used to take photos of electrical equipment or an installation. These photos will be used to determine the temperature of the equipment or installation and can be used to look for ‘Hot Spots’.
Why should I carry out a Thermographic Survey?
Sometimes in sensitive areas where power cannot be disconnected it can be difficult to maintain using PAT or Fixed Wire Testing but you still need to be subject to planned and preventative maintenance in order to ensure these areas are safe and in working order. Surveying in this manner allows abnormal temperatures within an electrical systems or equipment to be identified. Any abnormal temperatures within electrical components can often indicate potential issues. Catching these issues early may prevent the problem escalating saving time and money.
When should I have a Thermographic Survey carried out?
Thermographic surveys can be particularly useful where operations continue 24/7 or in areas where the electrical equipment can’t be turned off (such as server rooms). However, it is very important that the electrical installation is in operation whilst the survey is carried out as it is only when the system is on and electricity is flowing the ‘Hot Spots’ can be identified.
How much does Thermal Imaging cost?
This depends on a number of factors including access and the size of the area/installation that requires surveying. Please contact us for a quotation.
